Studying chemistry and physics is challenging to most students. As with many academic disciplines, the sciences bring to the table a host of new concepts, vocabulary and mathematical methods.
The disciplines of chemistry and physics seek to learn about the inner workings of the natural world that we are active participants in. After many centuries of discovery scientists have dissected a universe of seemingly infinite complexity, leading us to the fact that there are but a few fundamental particles and forces that work seamlessly to yield this beautiful place.
Williamsport Area High School's science curriculum exposes high school students to the many materials that comprise all matter in the universe and the intricate interactions between them in chemistry courses. Our Chemistry II Honors course covers the same material as a first year chemistry sequence in college. The course prepares students for the AP Chemistry exam.
Our new collegebound Concepts of Physics course exposes students to every field of physics with a practical, conceptual approach. In Physics I we deal initially with a classical treatment of motion (Newtonian mechanics) and then move into areas such as electricity and magnetism, optics, electronics, and thermodynamics. The Physics I course is a traditional introductory physics course that prepares students for college science courses, particularly if they plan to study physics in college.
